...because every boy is a prince,
and every girl a princess.
Angelika Isabelle Gritzmann
Waisenkinder Tansania e. V. is a non-profit organisation that aims to give love, trust and hope to vulnerable orphans and street children in Tanzania.
OUR goaL is to provide traumatised orphans and street children with a loving and safe home, to give them access to good education and to support them in their development so that they can experience a healthy, self-determined and happy childhood.
our VISION is to give orphans and street children a dignified and independent life.
WE WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO AN INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE PROJECT AND TAKE YOU TO A SMALL PLACE IN TANZANIA WHERE
a loving and safe home was built for orphans..
trauma-therapy is offered to trauma-affected children and adolescents.
all children are supported until they complete their education or studies.
The children
The children lived in very difficult conditions with their relatives or on the streets. They were starving, had to work very hard and were mentally and physically abused.
Today, the children are growing up in a safe and stable environment.
Through our loving and caring guidance and family interaction, a trusting relationship can be built up with each child.
THE HOUSE MOTHErs
Women with a strong sense of responsibility are entrusted with the care for these children - with a sense of duty, commitment, heart and soul, they give all-important motherly support. The child care workers take part in annual courses to expand their knowledge of child rearing and child development. The aim of the seminars is to continuously improve the quality of care.
THE FAMILY HOUSE
A maximum of fourteen children live in a house, as this is the only way we can guarantee caring childcare and the all-important family atmosphere for each child. The houses are run by a house mother and a house maid.
The house is built in a traditional simple style. The premises consist of a kitchen, a living room, four bedrooms and a playroom. Outside there is a playground and a large garden where we grow fruits and vegetables.
THE PLANTATION
In our garden we grow a variety of fruits and vegetables that give us seasonal bounty. Many of our trees will have grown enough to bear fruits within the next years. Papaya and bananas are already doing so. Besides papaya and bananas, we have coconut, guava, orange, moringa and avocado trees, as well as pineapple and lemongrass perennials.
We were able to buy a 3-hectare plot of land where we grow cassava and pineapple. In the future, we will sell the excess production on local markets and the surplus will partly finance the education of our children.
THE TANZANIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM
There are free government primary schools where classes are taught in Kiswahili. Even though there are no school fees, there are other costs (such as the purchase of school books, school uniforms, costs for exams, etc.). In the government schools, unfortunately, there are often class cancellations due to teacher shortages and there are well over 90 students in a class.
At the end of the seventh grade, the final examinations take place. The best students are then offered a free place at a good state secondary school. Classes are taught exclusively in English at all secondary schools.
Public schools are an alternative. For this reason, we have decided to send our children from the state primary school to a private international school. This gives the children a good foundation for their education before they go to secondary school.
Since Orphans Tanzania e.V. was founded, more than six children attend the college. One of the older girls has already successfully completed her Bachelor of Education degree.
ANGELIKA ISABELLE GRITZMANN, the FOUNDER
Angelika Gritzmann was born in Poland and lived there for 12 years before emigrating to Germany with her parents and younger sister.
Even as a child, she was touched by the heart of Jesus. Although she worked successfully as a media designer in an advertising agency, her love was for the children and she saw the joy she gave them. In 2009, she followed her destiny and visited an orphanage in Tanzania. In the slums of Dar es Salaam, she met other children who were not only hungry, but lonely, unwanted and in great need. After profound impressions, she started to provide the first children with basic food on a monthly basis at her own expense and sent the eldest girl back to school.
In addition to her work as a media designer, Angelika Gritzmann has trained in psychotraumatology and trauma counselling to help children deal with their deep-seated traumas and blockages.
"It is important to us that the children in our care grow up in a safe home, receive loving and caring guidance, develop trust and hope again and are allowed to experience a happy childhood. The children receive regular medical care and many years of constant support for their schooling until they complete their education or studies. We accompany all children until they have completed their education, because it is precisely these children who educate future generations and teach them values such as love, trust, respect and appreciation. This is the only way we can guarantee sustainability and create a world that is more equal."
"God, our Father, You alone give me the strength and courage to set out and do Your will.
I thank You for Jesus Christ, Your only begotten Son, our Lord, who shows Himself to us in the poor, the unwanted and the oppressed.
He walks with us in our ways and helps us to experience Your justice and Your mercy.
God, you are the light and the life that conquers violence, suffering and death.
I will praise you all my life."
Angelika Isabelle Gritzmann
WHAT DOES OUR WORK AND YOUR SUPPORT MEAN?
Children living in extreme poverty do not have enough to survive. They often suffer from malnutrition or undernourishment and live in undignified conditions. They are severely neglected and the violence of adults, often close attachment figures, is their daily routine. They have no access to medical care. They cannot go to school, thus denying them the opportunity for employment and a self-determined life. They are exploited, trafficked and sold. They end up in prostitution, become child soldiers or work on plantations, in mines or quarries.
If we take in a child, bring him back to school and provide regular medical care, that child will be safe, happy and healthy. It will use its education to earn a living later.
With your support, a child will have many opportunities that will enable its positive development and break the cycle of poverty.
